SECONDARY SCHOOL EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS' KNOWLEDGE AND THOUGHTS ON RECYCLING

The purpose of this research is to determine the knowledge and opinions of secondary school eighth grade students about recycling. The research was carried out as a case study design which is one of the qualitative research methods and the study group consists of 40 eighth grade students studying in a secondary school in Niğde Province. The data of the research were collected through semi-structured interviews with students. The obtained data were analysed by content analysis by creating codes and themes. As a result of the research, it was determined that the students defined recycling mostly as reuse, gave the most examples of recyclable materials such as plastic, paper and glass, and considered recycling necessary to save money and protect natural resources and the environment. In addition, it was determined that the students made the most waste separation among the recycling activities and there were suggestions for activities that explain the importance of the subject of recycling to the students in the classrooms.
